AAAA is a domain name record, that's basically the IPv6 address of the server where the domain name is hosted. The IPv6 system was designed to replace the present IPv4 system in which every Internet protocol address comprises of 4 sets of decimal numbers ranging from 1 to 255 e.g. 5.168.208.143. However, an IPv6 address includes 8 groups of four hexadecimal digits - ranging from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The reason for this change is the considerably smaller range of unique IPs which the current system supports and the fast increase of devices that are connected to the Internet. An illustration of an IPv6 address is 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you'd like to forward a domain to a web server which uses this sort of an address, you'll have to create an AAAA record for it, not the widespread A record, which is an IPv4 address. The two records deliver the exact same function, yet different notations are used, to separate the two types of addresses.
AAAA Records in Shared Hosting
If you use a service through a third-party provider and you need to set up an AAAA record to direct a domain or a subdomain to their system, you will be able to do that with only a few clicks within the Hepsia Control Panel, supplied with all our shared hosting plans. As soon as you sign in, you need to visit the DNS Records section in which you are going to find all of the records for every domain or subdomain hosted in the account. Setting up a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, picking the type from a drop-down options menu, that is to be AAAA in this case, and then inputting the value, or the actual IPv6 address, in a text box. As an added option you could modify the TTL value (Time To Live), which specifies how long the record is live after you edit it or delete it in the future. The new AAAA record will be active in just an hour and will propagate worldwide a few hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start redirecting to the new hosting server.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you have to create an AAAA record for a domain address you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've created, it is going to take you just a few clicks inside the Hepsia Control Panel to accomplish this. In case you have never had a website hosting account before, you will not experience any issues as you will use a very simple and easy-to-use interface. All the DNS records for your domains will be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the exact same name, so as soon as you go there, you'll see all records that have been set up automatically or manually and you will be able to create a new one by simply clicking the corresponding button. A small pop-up will appear, so with a few mouse clicks you can choose the type of record you require and for which domain or subdomain it will be set up. Afterwards, just paste the IPv6 address within a text box, save the modification and an hour later the new AAAA record will be fully live. As an optional setting, you can pick the length of time this record is going to be operating after you change it or remove it in the future. That's the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can modify from the default 3600 seconds when the other provider demands it.
